The problem with my CD-ROM drive is that Synaptic package manager can
not find a cdrom when I try to add  a package source cdrom. I feel the
lack of hda and hdc entries in /dev could be the cause.

I get the error:
E: Failed to mount the cdrom.

The CD-ROM is also not being mounted under /media/cdrom0.

I some how feel this is a bug because on the machine  I use at work, I
also run Feisty , /dev has hda, hdc and sda block devices and not just
sda ones. By the way, the two PCs have the same specs HD wise.
