Public bug reported:

Configured /etc/ssmtp/ssmtp.conf:
#
# Config file for sSMTP sendmail
#
# The person who gets all mail for userids < 1000
# Make this empty to disable rewriting.
[email protected]

# The place where the mail goes. The actual machine name is required no
# MX records are consulted. Commonly mailhosts are named mail.domain.com
mailhub=mail.example.org

# Where will the mail seem to come from?
#rewriteDomain=

# The full hostname
hostname=server.example.org

# Are users allowed to set their own From: address?
# YES - Allow the user to specify their own From: address
# NO - Use the system generated From: address
FromLineOverride=NO

finding in the postfix logs at mail.example.org:
May 14 20:03:11mail postfix/smtpd[3538]: connect from
server.example.org[192.168.180.38]
May 14 20:03:11 mail postfix/smtpd[3538]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from
server.example.org[192.168.180.38]: 550 5.1.1 <root@localhost>: Recipient
address rejected: User unknown in local recipient table;
from=<[email protected]> to=<root@localhost> proto=SMTP
helo=<server.example.org>
May 14 20:03:11 mail postfix/smtpd[3538]: lost connection after RCPT from
server.example.org[192.168.180.38]
May 14 20:03:11mail postfix/smtpd[3538]: disconnect from
server.example.org[192.168.180.38]

I'd await it sending mail to configured root "[email protected]", not to
some not existing "root@localhost", as seen.
