Thanks Brian. I can add more detail now. I was trying to install the Bodhi distribution (reason for the older Ubuntu release) and ran into the error in question. At the time I had used unetbootin with the Bodhi distribution and put them on a 0.5GB USB drive and ran into the submitted bug on 2 different laptops. Later I used unetbootin with the same Bodhi distribution and put them on a 1.0GB USB drive. From there, everything worked fine.
