143 is SIGTERM. Did you kill the maintainer script by hand during the
upgrade?
The dpkg output is also very confusing, showing the output of the
update-notifier-common downloader script interspersed with the output of
other maintainer scripts - this is rather strange since dpkg only ever
runs these scripts one at a time. Do you know why this output might be
garbled on your system?
