Sebastien,

After login, the resolution is fine; it is only *during* the login
screen that the login *form* is NOT visible.

During installation, I did "check" the box that allows Ubuntu to use 3rd
party packages. This problem occurred on the very first login AND all
additional logins thereafter. I do vaguely recall changing the video
driver from one (recommended) driver to another one "that was newer but
not recommended", but it was (however) "listed", when going to System
Settings > Additional Drivers.

As for "nouveau", I do not recall ever trying that driver (by name).
Again, this issue persists on "my cousin's" computer, and I'm only able
to report back as frequently as I visit him. Last night, I submitted the
apport-collect from his computer.

Remember, I set his user account to login automatically (so he can
expirence Ubuntu without having do a *blind* login each time), but after
updating his machine last night with 120 updates (and then rebooting), I
was able to see that the problem still persisted by "logging out"; that
took me to the login screen where the login form still remains left of
being visible.

Each time I visit him, I'll revist this thread also, so that I may
provide any additional requested information.

nouveau? Will this automatically be installed by disabled the 3rd party
drivers?
