Binary package hint: xffm4
I installed xffm4 in order to better mount Samba shares in Xubuntu
Dapper. As soon as I clicked on xfsamba (I believe the program was
called) my chosen wallpaper went black and several icons appeared on the
desktop. Right click functionality disappeared. Attempts to change the
wallpaper from Settings>Desktop Settings had no effect. Attempts to use
xgl/compiz were unsuccessful (I couldn't move applications, etc.) I
logged in as another user and my desktop functionality was fine UNTIL I
clicked on a XFFM icon. Same story. Uninstalling xffm4 and logging
back in restored normal functionality and even allowed me to log in
using XGL. BTW, attempts to use commands like xfdesktop to restore my
window management failed.
