That sounds like an unrelated problem to this bug report. But ifit is related (as it might be), it would be good to understand why acroread exhibits bad behavior but lpr does not. In other words, if the CUPS filters are the root of the problem with acroread, then just fixing the CUPS filters will leave undiagnosed why 'lpr' was not affected but acroread was.
