Public bug reported:
This happens in kernels 2.6.14 and later with hardware modems that
cannot be autodetected. To reproduce this bug get a copy of Dapper and
run it in a computer with an internal hardware modem that isn't
autodetected (by not autoedetected I mean that when you run pppconfig
and you press "yes" when it asks about trying to detect the modem only
the "manual" option appears and you need to manually enter the modem
port (which is /dev/ttyS0 for the iBook G3 500MHz internal hardware
modem).)
To reproduce it:
run sudo pppconfig in an iBook G3 500MHz (there are other computers with this
type of modem but I don't remember well which others I saw) with a fresh
install of Dapper.
in the "modem autoedetection" step answer yes.
It will list the "manual" set up option as the only option.
In the next step set the port to /dev/ttyS0.
What happens:
pppd shows an error which reads "cannot get terminal parameters: input/output
error".
What should happen:
pppd should dial to the web.
P.D: the error appears when you use the "plog" command.
