Many thanks, I used the three commands OK, however, with apologies fro 
my ignorance, although I have studied the Ubuntu Help Center and my 
Ubuntu Reference Guide, I cannot find how to reinstall the package.  I 
tried dpkg-reconfigure, but the response was that the package was not 
installed.  Whilst dpkg -i appears to be the right command, I am unsure 
and concerned that I do more harm than good!
