I don't know if this is the same bug or not, but when I start the HPLIP Toolbox in 12.04 32 bit, it takes a very long time to recognise my HP OfficeJet 4500, and three instances of hp-systray are running.
I do not have this problem on my 64 bit partition running 12.04. I'm attaching a screen shot of the process from System Monitor.
