Hi David, Do you have two-step authentication turned on in your Google account preferences? I ask because it's a known issue upstream that Shotwell uses an older, deprecated authentication API that doesn't support two- step authentication. Indeed, we're hoping to implement full OAuth support (including support for two-step authentication) for Picasa Web Albums and YouTube in this Shotwell release.
