Public bug reported:
Word counter shows incorrect number of characters when numbering is on.
Way to reproduce:
1. Open a new text document.
2. Write down "test".
3. Check word counter - one word, four characters, OK.
4. Turn on numbering.
5. Write another word.
6. Check word counter - the number of characters without spaces is two,
regardless of the length of the text.
