Yes, so I found out. However, I also found out that the external movemail uses other locking techniques when unable to create a lock file, and have thus commented on https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56671 to ask to have support for an external movemail. That bug is only almost 7 years old, so I don't expect anything too soon ;-)
