The behavior you're seeing is caused by the raw keycodes generated when
you press a key on the keypad when numlock is not engaged - the arrow
keys generate sequences that include the 'Esc' key, and the 'Esc' key is
the magic key that toggles plymouth between graphical and details mode.
You can simply press Esc again to get the splash screen.
