I'm having the same problem with an MSI-6534 (845M) motherboard.  It
looks like the ata_piix driver is getting loaded before the ide driver
and hooking the CDROM before the IDE driver can get to it.  Something
similar is described here:

with potential fixes...I haven't had a chance yet to rebuild the CD to
see if this solves the problem.
