Sorry if I explained badly. You *don't* need to install the Nokia Ovi Suite software, which is Windows-only btw, so it won't work in Ubuntu.
Your phone's USB settings usually have 3 or 4 different setups: "Connect PC to internet", "Mass storage mode" and "Nokia/Ovi Suite mode".
