Dear Mr. Salisbury, thank you for the installation advice. The package is installed, but the problem seems to need a more detailed description. At first the update-manager tried to install the package. That was halted at configuring grub. I terminated that process and the installation stepped forward. At least there was a message that the installation of the package was not successful. Then I installed the package by means of synaptic without any faults. I have noticed this behaviour for several months. A new linux-image could not get installed by means of update-manager but it worked by means of apt-get on a console or synaptic. I did not mention it before, because I had ubuntu 9.10 running and thought the fault was eliminated in younger releases. But now I did an upgrade an find just the same under ubuntu 12.04. So it is not the image-package but the update-manager, which may have a malfunction. Best regards Wolfgang Deinert
