Using Xsane or simple scan I only get a completely black page. The scanner works perfectly well with windows 7 on the same computer.
Also i have put Ubuntu 11.10 on a usb stick and installed Xsane. Using the stick on the same computer scanner printer set up the thing worked perfectly indicating the bug is in likely to be in Ubuntu12.04.
