Public bug reported:

What seems to be as a result of the way magazine purchases are handled,
I get this popup dialog every time I run update-manager.

"Failed to download repository information

Check your Internet connection.

W:Failed to fetch
https://private-ppa.launchpad.net/commercial-ppa-uploaders/lxf158/ubuntu/dists/precise/main/binary-i386/Packages
The requested URL returned error: 401
, E:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones
used instead."

I believe this list will grow as I make more purchases unless I go into
software sources myself and delete them manually.
