After rebooting I carried on using the USB keyboard, and after a while
it suddenly stopped working. The PS/2 keyboard works fine. So it seems
like the problem is 'first keyboard' stops taking input - nothing
specific to USB.
The machine was up for 1h 45m waiting at login prompt, then I used it
for about 40 mins before the keyboard stopped working.
staus info:
xev just provides a MappingNotify event - no keypresses:
MappingNotify event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x0,
request MappingKeyboard, first_keycode 8, count 248

$sudo evtest /dev/input/by-path/pci-0000\:00\:1a.0-usb-0\:1\:1.0-event-

shows key events on dead USB keyboard.
So situation is exactly as before but the other keyboard has got
'jammed' instead.
(I used the 'extra' keyboard for 2 full days with no further issues last
time. We'll see what happens this time).
Any clues for other things to check?
