** Description changed: Using a regular 2011 imac 21,5" with AMD radeon hd 6770m and ubuntu 12.04 mac specific 64bits; installing the 'additional drivers' non post update fglrx, be it with an updated system or not, results in a black screen at the next ubuntu login screen; ubuntu recovery failsafex cannot initiate ubuntu anymore saying ''no suitable screen were found'; only by just loadind ubuntu recovery and type reboot at recovery command line mode can I acess ubuntu partition once only, before having to repeat the process. In rare cases one must also type 'aticonfig --initial' to login once at ubuntu before it returning to the black screen state at the next boot. The only way to get out of the blackscreen for the procedures above is by rebooting the mac using its powerbutton. fglrx 'post-update' do not even install, being the system updated or not. AMD site radeon driver from the site does not work if an ubuntu specific package is generated(it also seems this is the package used by ubuntu); only the plain non ubuntu AMD driver install to Xorg truly works(no more black screens), the distorted ubuntu initial logo before login shows the driver was truly recognized(nvidia also distorts the logo when recognized), also the solution mentioned only works if you have a clean install of ubuntu(the home folder does not matter, no clean install of /home is needed) The ati driver package at ubuntu repository from software center seems to be the regular fglrx non post update, so, same results. The Ubuntu Open source driver works, but is slower even to get a login screen, also it is useless for true 3d graphics(like games) for my video card model(AMD radeon hd 6770m). For drivers which were 'tested by ubuntu developers' me and countless others expected more. - I cannot test this right now, as to test this I should wreck my ubuntu - desktop again; and my internet connection isn't restored yet(very low - speeds); and the testing is a bit dangerous to my hardware I guess, as I - got a very soft 'stain' at my screen, exactly where the ubuntu unity - left dock use to stay(perfectly at the dock right limits) which persists - though mac boot and my OS X system and which only appeared after the - several video driver attempts above. + I cannot test this right now, as to test this I should wreck my ubuntu desktop again; and my internet connection isn't restored yet(very low speeds); and the testing is a bit dangerous to my hardware I guess, as I got a very soft 'stain' at my screen, exactly where the ubuntu unity left dock use to stay(perfectly at the dock right limits) which persists though mac boot and my OS X system and which only appeared after the several video driver attempts above. + --- + .tmp.unity.support.test.0: + + ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu5 + Architecture: amd64 + CompizPlugins: [core, composite, opengl, compiztoolbox, decor, vpswitch, snap, mousepoll, resize, place, move, wall, grid, regex, imgpng, session, gnomecompat, animation, fade, unitymtgrabhandles, workarounds, scale, expo, ezoom, unityshell] + CompositorRunning: compiz + DistUpgraded: Fresh install + DistroCodename: precise + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 + DistroVariant: ubuntu + ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, whatever it takes to get this fixed in Ubuntu + GraphicsCard: + Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:2010] + Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Whistler XT [AMD Radeon HD 6700M Series] [1002:6740] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) + Subsystem: Apple Inc.
