Unfortunately haven't found a fix no. My laptop has 3 outputs when the HDMI is plugged in (HDMI, Speakers, Headphones), I tried to switch between speakers and headphones when the HDMI cable wouldn't be plugged, but that didn't fix anything.
My only solution so far is to plug the HDMI cable, set the proper output, unplug the HDMI.
