I think it is? I can't get vlc to get to full screen. You always see the
gnome top and bottom panels. And I can remember something with alternate
full screen. That we tryed that, but wasn't a succes. I also have a
amd64 dapper ubuntu installation. And I wasn't dependand on the video
file. Totem does a real full screen. And vlc with the gnome bars top and
bottom of the screen. I love the F key on my keyboard in totem to get
the video file full screen. Love vlc except the full screen function on
my system.
