Thanks, Colin. Did a zsync and install again today, same code 2 error, install went on fine. I did save /var/log/*log doesn't look like you need it.
BTW, quantal startup disk creator not successful. Booted to a purple splotch cursor black X instead of arrow, and with just the Examples and Install icons, no desktop launcher or panel. Install successful using precise startup disk creator to USB flash, only error was the code 2 and on booting the very typical _usr_lib_gnome- settings-daemon_gnome-settings-daemon.1000.crash which doesn't seem to cause any trouble. Up and running. Will try some more zsync .iso installs on netbook, notebook, tower as Alpha 1 approaches.
