The problem was reported at the end of the install process.  I
previously tried partitioning with a grubbios (or some name like that)
partition at the beginning, since the disk drive is a 3TB seagate SATA3
7200rpm unit, but that installation would not boot (though it appeared
to complete the installation process without problems).  Note that this
was an attempt to perform a complete fresh install of a single-boot
system on the entire HDD with no other disk drives in the system.  This
was an attempted install of the 64-bit ubuntu 12.04 DVD ISO.
