Installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS from USB, Installation ended w/o installing boot loader, fixed with boot-repair stared from live-USB.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair && sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair && boot-repair After this boot menu appeared. When selecting Ubuntu (normal) the purple Ubuntu screen appears and stays idle; Esc key triggers switch to terminal screen: fsck from util-linux 2.20.1 /dev/sda5: clean, 181251/17555456 files, 1811205/70218240 blocks * Starting mDNS/DNS-SD daemon[164G[ OK ] * Starting configure network device security[164G[ OK ] * Starting bluetooth daemon[164G[ OK ] * Starting network connection manager[164G[ OK ] * Starting CUPS printing spooler/server[164G[ OK ] Esc key triggers switch back to purple Ubuntu screen.
