Some additional research: 'sudo -s' works, 'sudo -i' doesn't Terminal, normal user: - gedit works - gnome-terminal works
- sudo gedit works - sudo gnome-terminal works - gksudo gedit: new file opening doesn't end in 3 minute, infinite loop? see attachment - gksudo gnome-terminal works Terminal, as root logged in using 'sudo -i', running - gedit: crashes with errors 2x 'no protocol specified' and 1x 'display can't be opened' - gnome-terminal: crashes with same errors Terminal, as root logged in using 'sudo -s', - gedit works - gnome terminal works Terminal, as root started from another terminal using 'sudo gnome-terminal' as normal user - gedit works - gnome-terminal works All the steps above were reproduced using lxterminal instead of gnome- terminal, ending with same results. Conclusion: something is going wrong with the environment specified by 'sudo -i'. I switched from 'sudo -i' to 'sudo -s'. (around 2008 I was told to always use 'sudo -i' on a support forum) ** Attachment added: "gksudo -dS gedit 'as normal user" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1009653/+attachment/3179673/+files/gksudo.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1009653 Title: [mi] EQ overflowing- klauncher doesn't see the DBUS server To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1009653/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
