I'm not sure if it's a gcc issue, using
if( pos )
memset( plain+1, rand()& 0xff, pos );
pos++;
builds fine indeed.
What I tested was:
gcc 4.7 -O2: FAIL
gcc 4.7 -O0: OK
gcc 4.6 -O2: OK
clang: OK
so maybe it's something in the linker or whatever. Fact is that this did
work in the past and that the warning makes no sense in this situation.
