** Description changed:

In Ubuntu 8.10, both 32 and 64 bit editions, using a Realtek rtl8187b
usb device (0bda:8189), the adapter associates and establishes a
connection with the router fine, but after a few seconds stops working.

Checking the syslog I found that the adapter stops working the exact
moment an ipv6 address is assigned to it. Blacklisting the ipv6 module
solves the problem, however, ipv6 support is obviously lost, which is a
  tad inconvenient.

- Using the same device in Ubuntu 8.10 32 bit with the Microsoft Windows
- driver (using ndiswrapper) works fine, including ipv6 support.
+ WORKAROUND: Using the same device in Ubuntu 8.10 32 bit with the
+ Microsoft Windows driver (using ndiswrapper) works fine, including ipv6
+ support.

So I guess it is a bug in the rtl8187b linux driver.
