This is specific to the synaptic backend; using the newer aptdaemon
backend by installing python-aptdaemon.gtk3widgets should be a
workaround. I'm encountering this while porting update-manager to
Python 3 (where the modules necessary for the aptdaemon backend aren't
yet packaged), so I'll see if I can figure out a fix.
