if your menu were to include all text apps along with all gui apps i feel it would be too big because it would be that way for ubuntu/kubuntu/edubuntu/xubuntu and i have all 4 plus a few others installed as alot of people do it would be too much. if you want most apps to show up in menu please install the package "menu" and add the debian menu entry using alacarte than restart panels. the menu package used in debian has alot of apps that gnome menu doesnt show.
