Quoting the attached VarLogDistupgradeTermlog.gz:

This is similar to bug #108754 in that the root cause is brittle
processing of the config file in the upgrade script.  As a workaround,
you should be able to finish the upgrade by editing the file
/etc/ssmtp/ssmtp.conf down to a bare minimum, upgrading, then putting
back the stuff you took out.
