I don't think that I have disk space problems... :) but it was an
obligatory guess, I presume.

Might it be a RAM problem? I only have 512 MB, but as far as I can
remember the bare minimum is 384, right?

I had a busy morning: I'll download the kernel and will be back soon with 
testing result.
