Using Kubuntu 4.1.1 and the Home sidebar entry still goes to $HOME and can't find it. I can't reproduce in Kubuntu 4.1.1. But since it surfaces every now and then, it must be some specific setting somewhere. I've checked some config files, and the one that could mean problems in that area is this file ( I think, I'm not an expert ): - .kde4/share/apps/konqsidebartng/webbrowsing/entries/home.desktop the first 3 lines say where the home folder goes, could you tell me your values for those lines? Also, you could backup your konqueror related files in .kde4/share/apps and .kde4/share/config, remove them and see if the problem goes away. KDE just doesn't handle the upgrade at all. Konqueror recreates this directory when next run and I believe it just holds sidebar settings as per its name - not, for example, bookmarks. As well as clearing out the old URLs it also clears out the defunct icon names.
