Starting Pidgin for the first time after logging in 12.04 (i had this
issue on 11.10 as well), I can see the icon but the pidgin window does
not show up. My work around is to close pidgin on that icon in launcher
and start pidgin again and press Super+W. That shows tiled view of all
my application windows in the current workspace and the pidgin window is
transparent (only window border and the title bar shows). Clicking on
the transparent pidgin window exposes it. Subsequent Super+W will show
it non transparent.

I have to do this everytime.
