I'm not sure why you keep bringing up ldm. You don't even appear to be using ldm and it has nothing to do with anything. Your issue is very simple: you are trying to bios boot a gpt disk, and this requires a bios_grub partition. You also don't want/need to use a device.map with grub2. I believe the extraneous errors about /dev/sda are a result of that drive being listed as (hd0) in device.map.
