I was not able to test with the latest upstream kernel. I followed the
instructions and installed kernel release 3.5 as requested, but the
system did not start, complaining about the impossibility to locate the
root filesystem.

I don't know if it helps, but I was able to install and start the system
using this release: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v2.6.38.8-natty/

Unfortunately, with 2.6.38 the problem also occurred. I noticed that the
problem appear to happen when writing to the filesystem.

I'd like to state that I'm kind of a newbie in updating kernel and such
low level maintenance... :)
