Thanks for the kind comments about the "new" Byobu for 12.04. I'm
extremely happy and proud of it.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to do as you suggest -- automatically
switch users from the screen backend to the tmux backend. I can, and
have, ensured that "new" users to Byobu receive the "new" tmux based
experience. But unfortunately, there are too many users who want and
expect the screen based experience at this point.
Note that you didn't need to remove your byobu configuration. You
could have simply run "byobu-select-backend" and that would have
switched you over. Perhaps I should add that to the F9 menu...
