Same thing on ESX 3.5 and ESXi 4.1, using 12.04 amd64 with the open-vm-
tools package.
Note that the vmware initiated shutdown ("Shut Down Guest" in Vi client)
actually shuts down; and the last line displayed is "Power Down"
(instead of "System Halted" when using halt).
