I continued to test and troubleshoot Simple Scan, and I continue to have
random crashes when scanning.
Extra steps taken:
1. I located the rating of my scanner at sane.org (Fujitsu Scansnap
S510). It is rated with the highest rating ("Complete").
2. When I use Xsane, I have a stable experience when using this scanner.
3. I have tried the scanner on a different Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit computer,
and I have similar crashes with Simple Scan and similar stable experience
with Xsane.
4. I have purchased a new scanner with a "Complete" rating from
sane.org(Canoscan LIDE 210). Simple Scan crashes with this scanner as
well. And
Xsane is stable.
This seems to be an Ubuntu 12.04 bug, since I used Simple-Scan successfully
in 11.04 and 11.10.
