Public bug reported: Hi. I have installed the closed source AMD Drivers, as adviced by Jockey (Additional Drivers GUI).
As stated in the AMD Catalyst installation guide, I run (I have a dual GPU 5970): sudo amdconfig --initial --adapter=all Doing so generates a xorg.conf file in /etc/X11/. The xorg.conf generated by this command configures two monitors, but I connected only one. After that I reboot and log back in. If I move the mouse pointer on the far right of the monitor it disappears because xorg thinks that there is another monitor, as stated in the xorg.conf file. If I run AMD Catalyst Control Center, it correctly finds that I have only one monitor connected and modifies the xorg.conf accordingly. It seems legit to me but the system hangs with a purple screen before the login screen. I think it's a regression because I have installed the proprietary driver as suggested by Jockey. Thanks. I'll attach the two xorg.conf files.
