Manually expiring this bug (should have expired years ago).
I couldn't find anything wrong in hardy's networking script so this leads me to
think something is wrong with the reporter's system.
Could you try to reproduce this on a clean installation, ideally of a more
recent Ubuntu and then file a bug against ifupdown instead of netbase?
As for Matthew, the bug you're describing seems unrelated to this, your
issue sounds more like a kernel/NetworkManager issue than
netbase/ifupdown as the later isn't really used on desktop machines.
