Thank you for reporting back, Matthew! Your help is much appreciated! In fact, you should not need to use sudo when running Software Center. Are you still using it? If so, what happens if you just run it as:
$ software-center If you have a moment, please give it a shot and let us know if it works. If it does not, please paste any output in the terminal to this bug and we can investigate further.
