More info, and a question. The info: I made additional tries with kernel 3.2.0-26. Most times, it powered off after resuming, but sometimes it restored backlight and then just got stuck (no image and no keyboard response). Searching the forums I found the latter problem was happening to some people with recent versions of the binary nvidia driver (302.17). I had the "X updates" PPA enabled (ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates), so I disabled it and reverted to the latest version of the driver provided by the official Ubuntu repositories (295.40). Then, the problem was gone.
So, to sum up: - Kernel 3.2.0-24: it all worked fine. - Kernel 3.2.0-25: it started failing... only with recent versions of the nvidia binary driver? That was my case, but I guess it failed too with the version from the official repository. - Kernel 3.2.0-26: it doesn't fail anymore with nvidia 295.40, but it keeps failing with nvidia 302.17. That could be a problem in the future, if that version of the driver makes its way to the official repositories. Now, the question: to @jsalisbury. The status of the bug has been changed to "Fix committed". Is that only because two people have reported the new version of the kernel solves their problems? Or has there been a real commit in the kernel code?
