Still no success to solve my network/nis problems. I now believe that
this is a bug in upstart. But I don't want to waste my time to
understand upstart and now switching my machines successively to Debian
wheezy. It seems to me, that even the Debian testing release runs more
smoothly compared to Ubuntu.

Sorry, but trouble increases from one Ubuntu release to the next and the
current LTS verion is obviously still a beta version from my humble
point of view :o(
