Ok, something is certainly going on below pulse somewhere. Pulse's udev
module detects the card, but it seems something has grabbed it already,
so PulseAudio cannot use it. Added to that, there is the message in
dmesg that Dave pointed out earlier.

When you get a chance, could you possibly reboot, log into a console,
and run sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/* so we can check if anything else is
using the card? At that point, PulseAudio running as the lightdm user
should be the only user of the card. Given the alsa-restore init message
in dmesg, could you also try running sudo alsa init and post the output
of that command in the bug?
