I also experience similar sound problems on Ubuntu 12.04. In my case, it
seems like there are random sound glitches (e.g. every 5 to 10 minutes)
during the playback of any audio. It happens in Audacious (audio player)
as well as in SMplayer (video player) or also in Google Chrome when
playing videos on YouTube.

The glitches sound like a short bit of currently played music (like a
quarter, maybe half of a second) repeated several (3, maybe 4) times and
then the playback normally continues.

I didn't notice any association of this problem with sound volume. But
since I have it set to the maximum for the most of the time and adjust
the volume on speakers only, I might have just missed it.

On the other hand, I have the impression that at least in my case, this
problem only occurs when using Gnome 3. I would appreciate if anyone
could confirm or deny this. When I have tried to use Unity or Gnome 2, I
didn't notice any sound glitches at all.

And if the usage of Gnome 3 is related, I am afraid that this might not
be a bug in alsa-driver.
