Public bug reported:

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 x64 on a reasonably high-end system. If the
user session is kept locked for a significant length (say overnight),
there is often a delay on resuming, the background for the enter your
password screen is not what it should be (instead of having a black
background, it's very often like a screenshot, which in theory is also a
security risk), and after logging in I receive a your system has
encountered a problem dialog.

After ignoring it the first few times, today I saw that it's a segfault
in /usr/bin/Xorg.

For background info, this is a fresh install, and the only things
running in the foreground while the system was locked is firefox. I also
have dropbox running in the background.

Ubuntu version: 12.04 LTS
Package version: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.11.4-0ubuntu10.4
What I expected to happen: the unlock screen appears almost instantly, and
shows the ambience background
What happened instead: the screen was blank for about a minute or so, and the
background looked like a screenshot of the desktop just before it was locked.

I don't know if the compiz tag is relevant or not, but since it was
automatically included, I'm not removing it.
