Public bug reported:
In Precise, lib32asound2 looks for plugins in /usr/lib32/alsa-lib, but
they are no longer there. The 32-bit plugins are provided by
libasound2-plugins:i386 and are in /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/alsa-lib.
Thus any program using the 32-bit libasound binary from lib32asound2
will fail to load any plugins (e.g., pulse).
This breaks sound for any program that loads the lib32asound2 binary,
e.g. the HIB game Lone Survivor. (Curiously though, after removing and
re-installing lib32asound2, it loads the libasound2:i386 binary
instead.)
Since lib32asound2 is obsoleted by libasound2:i386, some sort of upgrade
path to remove it is needed.
