I think there have been similar problems on this machine for some time
(unfortunately I haven't had the time to look into it properly before
now).

I think the last "good" kernel I have used is 3.2.0-16, I have kept that
around and boot using it when I need to be sure of uptime and it seems
to work fine. IIRC this was the last kernel before RC6 was enabled.
Everything since then has hung occasionally, either completely (it
seems) or the UI has gone a little bonkers..

I have installed 3.5.0-030500rc6 kernel from the link you provided and
will report back.
